On July 1, 2009, Central Florida Representative Scott Plakon (R-37th Dist.) introduced a House memorial addressed to the United States Congress asserting Florida’s sovereignty over matters not expressly granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States. The proposed legislative declaration of state rights has already garnered 33 co-sponsors.
The effort to take a stand against the federal encroachment into governmental affairs traditionally managed by the states is rooted on the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, which states:
“The powers not delegated to the United states by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States, respectively, or to the people.”
While the scope of federal jurisdiction over many subjects, especially in the category of social programs, has been a source of friction throughout the nation’s history, the rapid pace, broad reach and huge cost of recent federal executive and legislative actions, has heightened the concern among state and local officials. As a consequence, resolutions and memorials such as the one proposed by Representative Plakon have been introduced in legislatures all across the nation. In fact, Florida is the 36th state to have one such measure under consideration. Currently, six states have already passed such a resolution. The latest was Alaska. Its resolution was signed by Governor Sarah Palin a few days ago.

Palin Signs Alaska Sovereignty Resolution

On Friday, July 10th, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin signed House Joint Resolution 27 (HJR27), sponsored by State Rep. Mike Kelly. The resolution "claims sovereignty for the state under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States."
The House passed the resolution by a vote of 37-0 (3 not voting) and the Senate passed it by a vote of 40-0.
Six other states have had both houses of their legislature pass similar resolutions - Tennessee, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Louisiana - Alaska joins Tennessee as the second to have such a resolution signed by the Governor.

Rep. Ron Paul so far has won 245 co-sponsors to a bill that would require a full-fledged audit of the Federal Reserve by the end of 2010.
All of a sudden, Congress is paying close attention to Ron Paul.
The feisty congressman from Texas, whose insurgent "Ron Paul Revolution" presidential campaign rankled Republican leaders last year, now has the GOP House leadership on his side -- backing a measure that generated paltry support when he first introduced it 26 years ago.
Paul, as of Tuesday, has won 245 co-sponsors to a bill that would require a full-fledged audit of the Federal Reserve by the end of 2010.
Paul attracted just 18 co-sponsors when he authored a similar bill, which died, in 1983. While the impact Fed policies have on inflation is once again a concern, fears about loose monetary policy and excessive federal spending appear even more widespread in 2009.
"In the past, I never got much support, but I think it's the financial crisis obviously that's drawing so much attention to it, and people want to know more about the Federal Reserve," Paul told FOXNews.com.

Prohibits sanctions against a health care provider for failing to participate in such a system.

Climate Change: A switch of four Republican votes would have defeated Waxman-Markey, the Democrats' global warming legislation. But like the Clinton Btu tax, the bill could die in the Senate and turn the House over to the GOP.
What were these RINOs thinking? The GOP is supposed to be the party of low taxes and free markets. Rep. Mike Castle, one of the eight offered an explanation right off of President Obama's teleprompter.
"Nations around the world are surging ahead with emission reductions and developing new energy technologies," Castle, Delaware's at-large congressman, posted on his House Web site. "The United States should be on equal footing, if not leading this effort to remain competitive."
Castle may not have noticed, but China and India have no intention of marching with us over the cliff. They are building coal and nuclear plants while scouring the world for oil. Countries like Spain have found that alternative energy costs two jobs for every "green" job created. This bill makes us competitive only with Somalia and Bangladesh.

Incredibly, the United Nations, instead of trying to broker peace agreements amongst the world's warring nations -- or dismantling the nuclear weapons programs of rogue nations such as Iran and North Korea -- is meddling once again in the affairs of the nuclear family and the Obama administration is trying to give them an assist.
Pro-family forces in America are fighting back. There is now a bill, authored by Congressman Pete Hoekstra, Republican from Michigan and co-sponsored by the Republican leader of the United States House of Representatives, John Boehner from Ohio, which will establish a Parents' Rights Constitutional Amendment (H. J. Res. 42.) The entire leadership of the Republicans in the House of Representatives are also co-sponsors. It now has 100 co-sponsors and gaining more every day as Members of the House find out about this commonsense pro-family legislation.
Leader Boehner's office reported that: "Recently the Administration has indicated that it would like the Senate to ratify the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. Last week, prior to voting for the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, House Republican Leader John Boehner spent the better part of an hour reading from the 1201-page bill and the associated 300-page addendum, which had been dumped on Congress' door at 3:09AM. He did so, he told The Hill, because he believed "people need to know what's in this pile of s-it."
Congressman Boehner was correct. There may be no better description of what's in this phony legislation, designed to supposedly halt global warming.
First, a couple quick facts:
Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, it's a fertilizer. It accounts for a feeble .038 percent of the atmosphere. According to the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center, a research wing of the Department of Energy, only 3.2 percent of that thin atmospheric component is created by anthropogenic emissions.

GUILLETTE: Some sunshine in Florida
On the surface, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist appears to be the rising star in the Sunshine State. Mr. Crist won a landslide election, maintains high approval ratings and was considered as a potential vice presidential choice by Republican nominee John McCain. In addition, he was even ranked the most "fiscally conservative governor in the country" by the Cato Institute - beating out even South Carolina's budget hawk Gov. Mark Sanford.

Considered by grass-roots activists to be the "Cuban Newt Gingrich," Mr. Rubio is an idea-man who focuses on free-market solutions to current problems. As a state representative, Mr. Rubio held "Idea Raisers" around Florida where citizens could offer suggestions to make state government more efficient and effective. He took the best of these and published them in a book titled, "100 Innovative Ideas for Florida's Future."

Staff Sergeant First Class John C. Beale is honored

Killed in action the week before, the body of Staff Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time.
Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice. Georgia remains on of those graceful places. The link below is a short travelogue of that day's remarkable and painful journey. But only watch this if you wish to have some of your faith in people restored.

The Senate has adjourned for the day and will reconvene at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 9. Votes on amendments by Sens. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and David Vitter (R-La.) that appeared imminent earlier today are still expected at some point over the next few days. Sen. Grassley's amendment (# 1415) would allow employers using E-Verify to check the workplace eligibility of all employees, not just new hires. Under current law, E-Verify may only be used for new hires. Sen. Vitter's amendment (#1375) would prevent further delays in the implementation of the "no-match" rule, which allows the Social Security Administration to send letters notifying employers that the Social Security number and personal data of certain employees don't match SSA records (almost always because they are illegal aliens).

Florida 10th Amendment Resolution
Please join us in supporting Florida HM19. The 10th Amendment to the United States Constitution (sometimes known as the State's Rights Amendment), states:
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
HM19 serves as a notice and a demand by the people of the state of Florida as expressed through their legislature to the Federal Government to cease and desist from going beyond the scope of and issuing mandates beyond it's constitutionally delegated powers. It also reasserts Florida's sovereignty under the 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

The American Founding Fathers originally intended a monetary system quite different from the one we have now. In fact, they had hoped to prevent many of the fiscal and economic problems with which our present monetary system is afflicted.
Historically, the principal mistakes grew out of two rather amazing monetary institutions which crept into our system. The first institution which poisoned the monetary well was the development of a privately owned central bank copied after the Bank of England. The second institution which brought on us a cycle of "boom and bust" economics was the adoption of a procedure for the creation of "money out of nothing" through a system of fractional banking.

You're Not The Boss Of Me!
Two hundred and thirty-three years ago, in Philadelphia, a bunch of
guys got together and wrote a letter to their king. The letter was
very eloquent, and well thought out, but it basically boiled down
to this:
"Dear King George,
You're not the boss of us!
Sincerely,
A Bunch of Troublemakers"
That's essentially what the Declaration of Independence was: a
bunch of radicals declaring that they would no longer recognize the
right of their king to rule them, at all, ever again. They went on
to create a new boss, which turned into a new oppressor, but we'll
get to that in a moment. First, let's consider the essence of that
attitude: "You're not the boss of me!"
